Hello, I am Owen Buz Mills
I was 17 years old when I first took the oath to protect and defend our constitution and our country from all enemies foreign and domestic.
Now almost ½ a century later, I am still dedicated to this task.
I am honored to stand for re-election to the Board of Directors of the NRA for the third time..
I need your support to win this seat. Tell friends and fellow NRA members to get out the vote for me. Look for your ballot in the February issue of your NRA publication.
I desire this honor not for self aggrandizement but to assist our executive staff in building the NRA, pursuing Freedom, and protecting America. We are all well aware that our association is entering perilous times in uncharted waters with a potentially adversarial national administration. There are hundreds of proposals out there in the various legislatures that are bent on destroying Freedom and our civil rights. Everything from outright firearms bans to ammunition, powder, primers, lead, noise, you name it.
I have had the privilege over the last 3 years to serve on two committees for Past President Sandy Froman and President Sigler. These committees are the Presidents Committee on Advancement, which provides guidance to staff on the securing of the long term fiscal viability of our association. The Industry Relations Committee was initiated to improve, enhance and promote relationships with all the companies that are involved in our endeavor. I am proud to report to you that both of these committees have been so well received that their performance has well exceeded expectations.
There is much to be accomplished and time is short. I feel the urgency to get moving particularly in the area of long term financial viability of our association.
I have over 5 decades in the shooting sports. I remember taking my .22 rifle to school and hunting and plinking on the hike home in the late afternoon and hunting with my Dad in the fall for both upland game and waterfowl. I have served as club member, club officer and president and state association officer.
I have participated in competitive shooting sports and have been fortunate to win state competitions and represent my state in national competitions.
I still have that old Remington 1911 and General Motors M1 Carbine I purchased for jest a few dollars in the NRA program in 1962. The collection of Military weapons has grown quite a bit since then. My preference in side arms has not changed.
I have been engaged in all aspects of small business for over 40 years. I have created thousands of jobs in the communications industry.
My success in these areas now allows me the time to devote to our association and other community service.
I have successfully lobbied the state legislature on several issues including bills I have initiated. I have testified before congress regarding the arming of pilots.
I have donated untold hours and days of personal time and of turbine aircraft time in support of pro Second Amendment Candidates.
15 years ago I was fortunate to be in a position to acquire Gunsite Ranch. Col. Jeff Cooper founded Gunsite in 1976. It is now the oldest and largest privately owned firearms training facility in the world. Every year we train more than 1500 civilians, Law Enforcement and Military personnel in every aspect of firearms application, from self defense, to big game hunting.
In Support of the Global War on Terror Gunsite has trained thousands of Marines and Special Operations personnel in aspects including foreign weapons systems.
Every Gunsite client over the last 10 years has departed the ranch with a shiny new NRA annual membership in his pocket as part of his training program. Gunsite, over the last 10 years has supported and continues to support Friends of the NRA, regional, national, industry shooting events and competitions. We support Youth groups, scouting and Olympic development programs. We have also provided significant support to the NRA Foundation and the Institute for Legislative Action.
This campaign for the Board of Directors of your NRA is really not about me. It is about you, our children and our grand children. It is about Civil Rights, Freedom and America. Since 1871 our organization has fought for your civil rights and the future of America. I ask your help in selecting me to carry this fight forward.
I thank you for taking the time to listen and I remind you that your ballot will be enclosed in the February issue of the American Rifleman Magazine and other NRA Publications that will be delivered to you in mid-February. Find that ballot and mark it for Owen Mills and return it to Headquarters.
Again, Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you in Nashville in April for the annual meeting.
