I was a student in the Tactical Med course that was in April 2025 at Gunsite. This was a life changing experience for me in many ways. I was at Gunsite 3 years ago, and one of the instructors told me that we should all take a course in how to treat injuries and care for people that are injured/hurt/wounded. I was expecting to learn how to treat injuries, but I was not expecting to learn so much about myself and how this course would change my philosophy about preparedness and helping others. First, the knowledge that you shared with us was so incredibly helpful. The technical aspect of what you taught us was just a small part of what I learned that weekend. The stories about you, your colleagues, and your experiences created an incredible connection for me that really helped me bridge the theory with the idea of practical application. On Sunday when we did the scenarios, I was prepared in my mind to make the decision to help people regardless of the consequences for me. What I can tell you is that your lessons and scenarios really clarified my priorities in that moment and have made me think every single day about my decisions and what my mindset may be if I am ever in a real situation like the ones we experienced in the scenarios. I have spent the last two weeks reading through my notes and creating lists so that I can put together a kit that I have with me every day, and a kit that I can have in my car; the information that you gave us regarding choices and kit decisions were incredibly helpful. I am sorry for the long email, it is a longwinded way of expressing my heartfelt gratitude for not only the information and training, but also for the gift of making me think about what could be some of the most important decisions of my life and of those who I have the chance to help. Thank you for your service to our country, and thank you for fighting through your own struggles so that other people can benefit from your experience. I hope to see you again at Gunsite, thank you for everything that you do.
