Labor Day
Gunsite staff labors on this traditional holiday, marking the end of summer. We do so as it allows the students to attend taking one less vacation day. The staff enjoy their Labor Day as a holiday of their choice (Well, not during GAS week!), many taking it during one of the hunting seasons. We welcomed about 70 students on campus today for 250 Pistol, 223 Carbine and Tactical Concealed Carry Pistol.
Fall and Spring are our strongest months as the weather in the high desert is beautiful with cool mornings and warm days with impossibly blue skies and marshmallow clouds. (Along with some monsoon rains . . .)
Have you encouraged other Gunsite Family to sign up for the monthly newsletter? It is the best way to keep up on happenings at the Gunsite Ranch and Gunsite Family. Look to the bottom of the Gunsite Web Page for the link to sign up.
Are you doing the requisite studying of candidates for the November election? As one who was very active in local politics for decades, too many people make their mind up who to vote for in the week or two preceding elections. (That is why commercials and advertising increase so drastically then.) Your time to do your homework is now. Furthermore, you need to be sure to find like-minded individuals and get them out to vote. Too many shooters, hunters, outdoors folks do not take the time to vote. With mail-in and drop off ballot locations, it is a simple process. Please . . . Take some time to research the candidates and make the best choices and get out and vote. You will hear this from me again as election day nears.
Gunsite owner and NRA Board Member Buz Mills continues to fight the good fight for us at the NRA. While good steps were taken during the Annual Meeting in Texas, much hard work is ahead of us. There are many reform-oriented Officers and Board Members now and petitions are being circulated to get more on the Ballot. Watch at your local gun shops, gun shows and in our newsletter for those who in our opinion deserve support and sign their petitions. And, as mentioned in the preceding paragraphs about voting, when the NRA Ballots come out, we will suggest names for you to consider helping elect and save the NRA.
Planning for the Gunsite Alumni Shoot 2024 is at high speed. We are a month out. Stages have been selected and some of us are test firing them to see how challenging they are and make sure they can be completed in a timely manner. Once again, staff have come up with some grand stages. We will also be celebrating the 25thAnniversary of Buz and Sonja Mills purchasing and saving Gunsite. When you see them, please be sure to say, “Thank you.”
Have you enrolled for GAS yet? Time draws near.
As always, the week preceding GAS is a double 250 Pistol and double 350 Pistol and this year Cory Trapp’s Night Vision Pistol Carbine II. The 250 and350 are great tune-ups for GAS. The week following Gas are the challenging 499 Pistol with Randy Watt, Vince Morgan, Joe Knapp and Pete Feeney. Running along side is the Advanced Tactical Pistol Problems – Simulators many have asked for. Erick Gelhaus, Guy Coursey and Jim Owens will lead this 3-day simulator intensive course. Eric Ingersoll and Joe Avila and Dave Bahde also offer up the Tactical Concealed Carry 2 Gun that week. Finally, the new Scoped Carbine with RM Walt Wilkinson rounds out the week. So many classes and so little time!
We go for our final meeting to approve the remaining zoning change requests this week. We think all will go well and as planned but keep us in mind.
Time to head down range to check on the Family and deliver some surprises on this warm afternoon. If you know, you know . . .
When are you coming back to Gunsite?
DVC,
Ke
