MONDAY POST GAS!
GAS 2024 is in the books! What a wonderful weekend, starting Friday evening in the Gunsite Campground for the Annual Steak Dinner. (Side bar: The steak dinner began 24 years ago when the late Gunsite Rangemaster Mike Hughes and I instructed the inaugural “Knuckleheads” Class. At the conclusion, about 12-15 of us decided to throw some steaks on the grill Friday night in the campground and 24 years later we served near 300 steaks as a fund raiser for the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation.) A highlight of the dinner was the recognition of Buz and Sonja Mills and their 25thAnniversary of purchasing and saving Gunsite.
I am already looking forward to next year’s dinner.
A beautiful sunrise started GAS Saturday with about 275 competitors and near 100 volunteers assembling in the largest GAS Tent yet for the presentation of the Colors by the Granite Mountain Young Marines followed by remarks and rounds being fired by 0800. The day continued, firing over 70,000 safe rounds, and concluded with the Cowboy BBQ and largest prize table yet.
Please take a look at the 2024 GAS photos and remember to send messages to our sponsors for the prize table. Please take a look at the 2024 GAS photos and remember to send messages to our sponsors for the prize table: 2024 GAS – Gunsite Academy
Let me say one last thing about GAS: “Great things in business are never done by one person; they’re done by a team of people.” – Steve Jobs. The Gunsite Staff, Instructors and Volunteers did a grand job again this year. Thank you.
So much more going on at Gunsite. We don’t sit on our laurels after GAS. A 499 Advanced Special Pistol, Tactical Concealed Carry 2 Gun, the inaugural Scoped Carbine, Advanced Tactical Pistol Problems – Simulators and a private Tactical Concealed Carry Pistol got underway this morning. This weekend is the Two (2) Day Carbine Range Day (Not too late to enroll!), a private Shotgun and the Long-Range Precision Rifle (PR7) begins Sunday. October continues with 260 Shotgun, Instructor Development, Seasoned Citizen 250 Pistol, 223 Carbine, Ladies’ Pistol 1 and 2, an All- Steel Pistol Range Day, the Crimson Trace 250 Pistol, a Mossberg Media Event and numerous private classes. Can you tell October is a popular month and the weather is usually tremendous?
The Gunsite Gunsmith – Fink Custom Guns – has been busy with design and build of numerous new Gunsite Service Pistols (GSP). One of my favorite carry guns, the Concealed Carry Officer Model (CCO), is again available, custom made in Dave’s shop. You have the option of the 9mm LW FCG Gunsite 1911 CCO 9mm or the .45 ACP steel frame version FCG Gunsite 1911 CCO .45 (Commander top end and Officer’s Model bottom.) An ideal carry pistol.
The other new pistol is the FCG Gunsite 2011 Double Stack 9mm pistol. FCG_gunsite_2011_double_stack_9mm. Many have found the greatness of the 1911 again, but in a wide body 9mm. This one, in typical GSP fashion, comes with all you need and nothing extraneous. (Includes the pistol mounted optic and three serial numbered magazines and more. See the website for details.
Speaking of the new pistols, we have a new Ammo Blast-Out promotion underway as well. Buy a Gunsite Pistol (Custom Gunsite Firearms (gunsitestore.com)) and a Gunsite 5 Day Class (scheduled between November 24, 2024 and February 28, 2025) and receive the class ammunition package free. Christmas is coming!
The 2025 Print Calendar is now available. The mailing will occur in the next several weeks. In the meantime, the2025 calendar is also available at Gunsite.com. If you have not attended a Gunsite Class in the last 3 years, your name is dropped from the calendar list and you will need to go to the website and request one.
One last thing for those traveling to Gunsite in the next several weeks. It would behoove you to check the Arizona Department of Transportation website as I-17 going North from Phoenix has a great deal of construction. Check it out prior to driving from Sky Harbor to see if there are detours and delays. Home | Department of Transportation (azdot.gov)
Enough for today. Time to get back at it. First GAS 2025 Meeting is tomorrow!
When are you coming (back) to Gunsite?
DVC,
Ken
