Where did October go?
It seems like it was yesterday that we had 220 or so participants at the Gunsite Alumni Shoot! What a great day that was. Approximately 70,000 rounds fired safely downrange as we expressed our freedoms and exercised one of our inalienable rights.
We already have near 50 enrolled for GAS 2020.
During GAS, we also celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Buz and Sonja Mills saving Gunsite. The positive changes made these last twenty years are amazing. There are multiple new ranges, untold new classes, new buildings and simulators and the road is paved. We surprised them with Ruger Lightweight Commander 1911 pistols, engraved by Tyler Gun Works, Simply Rugged exotic animal skin leather and DoubleTap special labeled ammunition. It was a fun project and a challenge to keep the secret for several months.
October finished up with very cool mornings (About 10 degrees here Halloween morning until sunrise) but warm afternoons.
Election rhetoric continues to ramp up. If you appreciate our way of life, the Constitution and Bill or Rights and the Second Amendment, you need to take strong interest. Study your candidates from the local level through national and make sure you know who will represent you best. Make sure those in office now and those wishing to be in office know your feelings about important issues. We are their employer. They are not our leaders. Study the issues, study the candidates and vote appropriately.
November is another busy month at Gunsite right up to Thanksgiving. Our partners Crimson Trace are back the first week of November with the Crimson Trace 250 Pistol Class. You need not have a CT laser to enroll. They are apt to have one for your pistol to use in class and then probably get a deal on the end of the week.
Pistol Range Day is the second Saturday in November. The Pistol Range Days are one of the best bargains at Gunsite. Once you successfully complete a pistol class, you are eligible to enroll in these one-or-two-day classes. The curriculum varies, dependent on the Rangemaster and level of students, but it is always a challenge. Shotgun Range Day is also in November!
The new Critical Skills Pistol Carbine is mid-month. You need be a 250 and 223 graduate to be put through the enhanced training in this course.
Steve Tarani will be back for the two (2) day Seasoned Citizen Close Quarters Pistol. This class is based upon what a “season citizen” can physically do. In a nutshell, it is learning to break contact and get in the fight as need be.
Our industry partner David Scott-Donelan returns with his world class and world renown Tactical Tracking Class. Put on your hiking shoes and come learn from the best in the business. Whether you use this to track bad guys or for search and rescue, it is well worth your time and money. Registration is through https://www.scottdonelantrackingschool.com/
We also have multiple media events. With SHOT Show a few months away, we get to see many new items that will be announced at SHOT. (Don’t ask, we sign non-disclosure contracts! However, there are some exciting things coming!)
The week of Thanksgiving there are no courses scheduled so the Gunsite staff can enjoy time with their families.
December has a 250 Pistol class, 223 Carbine, CCW, Pistol Range Day, private classes and more media events.
Hunting season is also upon us. Get afield and enjoy the splendor of the woods. As Jose Ortega y Gasset wrote: “One does not hunt in order to kill, on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted.” Enjoy your hunting.
DVC,
Ken
