INDEPENDENCE DAY!
“May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.” — Peter Marshall
Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. Celebrating our Republic’s Independence many years ago. Like Memorial Day, I also like to reflect on those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, so we are free to celebrate . . .
- “Find a moment, just a simple moment, to close your eyes and think of the men and women who protect the freedoms you enjoy. It’s a privilege, not a right.”- Matthew Lillard
Gunsite is quiet the week of Independence Day as many are challenged to travel and train in the few days prior to July 4. However, it is an opportunity for the great Gunsite Staff to refit, refurbish, repaint, etc. the buildings, ranges, target systems and more. We also have the opportunity to try to catch up on some of the administrative work that never slows down.
If you have not registered for the November Rogers Memorial Revolver Round-Up . . . I told you so . . .Registration is now restricted to “Wait List.” We always have cancellations, so please register and wait!
Don’t let the same thing happen for the Gunsite Alumni Shoot (GAS Match) October 5 as it is 2/3 full as of today. We have a larger tent planned an updated menu and new and ever-challenging stages.
Some folks are concerned about the heat in July and August at Gunsite. Being a 55-year Midwesterner, I’ll take the 95-degree heat with 11% humidity over the 95 degrees and 95% humidity any day!
July brings in another year of the beloved Youth Classes! We have Youth 250, 350, and 499 Pistol classes. (Ages 12-16, learning with their peer group.) It is wonderful seeing these Young Americans learning the responsibilities of firearms training and growing under our tutelage. While I enjoyed Boy Scout Summer Camp as a youth, I wish this opportunity would have been available. The Youth Classes also have greatly reduced tuition. (Do the kids still write the essay: “What I did on my summer vacation” when they return to school?)
Opposite the Youth classes are 250 Pistol, 350 Pistol, Tactical Concealed Carry Pistol, and the Colt 1911 Armorers Class, followed by 150 Pistol and Colt M16/AR15 Armorer Class. While your Young American take their class, you can be on campus as well in your class.
The 150 Pistol following the Colt 1911 Armorer Class is sponsored by Colt with Colt “SWAG” and Captain of the Colt Shooting Team, Mark Redl participating in the class. What a fun opportunity, especially if you just completed your Colt 1911 Armorer Class! Thanks to industry partner Colt for supporting this class.
We also can’t forget that the inaugural Gunsite 150 Pistol Class at Shooters World in Orlando (Just off Universal Drive, neighbor to Universal Studios) is July 19-21, 2024. I am joined by Vince Morgan and John Lawrence as instructors. Let the kids enjoy the theme park and you come to gun camp!
This is a great segue to announce the Gunsite will be offering the 150 Seasoned Citizen Class at the Shooters World in The Villages retirement community just north of Orlando in February. If you are a snowbird and are tired of golf by then, enroll in the 3-day pistol class! Enrollment will be up on the 2025 Class Schedule at Gunsite.com soon.
If your friends and fellow Gunsite Family don’t receive the Gunsite Monthly Newsletter, it is easy to help them enroll. Go to www.gunsite.com and scroll to the bottom for the link to enroll.
Enough for this issue. Time for you to enjoy the holiday and celebrate the Republic’s Independence.
“When are you coming (back) to Gunsite?”
