The Dog Days of Summer
July has been a hot one and Gunsite finished July like a firecracker!
Turmoil continues across the Republic. Gun sales (if you can find them and ammunition) are at record levels. Have you made this an opportunity to help your family, friends, and neighbors? More and more liberals are recognizing that they just might appreciate the Second Amendment after all. Do not let this be a divisive moment with these folks. Help train them, especially with the Four (4) Safety Rules. (Steer them to Gunsite!) Let this be an opportunity to help them continue to support or sway their support to the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Second Amendment.
As always, it is also a good time to re-read Principles of Personal Defense and refresh the Color Code. Make sure your family knows what plans are in place in the event of domestic terrorism in your neighborhood or workplace or traveling. Keep current on what is happening in your area of operation and avoid places that are apt to have violent events.
The last week of July was a media event, the Colt AR and 1911 Armorers Courses, private Long-Range Rifle, private Pistol-Carbine, our first 250 Pistol Red Dot Sight Class and our first Youth 499 Pistol and our first ever Youth 270 Rifle Class! Whew . . .. and that was just the last week of the month.
We love the Youth classes. It is a shame the mainstream media won’t show what great young Americans we have at “Gunsite Summer Camp” learning about responsibilities in life. And, we had a first in the Youth 250 this year as the Youth 250 Shoot-Off winner beat the Adult 250 Shoot-Off Winner in our championship bout!
We also hosted Guns and Ammo TV again and Michael Bane and the Outdoor Network for filming some of their season. Did we mention it was 106 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday and most of this last week? But that did not deter the great Gunsite family and staff.
August comes in a bit cooler, but not regarding training. A double-250 course begins on August 3 alongside a special train-the-trainer course for the Marine Corps. If you are a graduate of one of our Long-Range Rifle classes, we have the Long-Range Rifle Range Day on August 15. When was the last time you got to shoot out to 1000+ yards with your precision rifle? If you have not taken a Long-Range Rifle Course (PR7), one begins on August 16. Rental equipment is available from Gunsite.
We close out August with Team Tactics for Two, Pistol Carbine 2 Day Range Day, 250 Revolver, Battle Rifle, and the new 350 Red Dot Sight class. There is something for everyone in August! We also have a 250 Pistol Class with our partner Royal Range in Nashville!
The ever-popular Gunsite Alumni Shoot is Saturday October 3. As always, the staff have challenging stages, set to go quickly. The prize table will be a cornucopia of great gear from our industry partners. We recently “taste-tested” our returning caterer and blessed the BBQ for Saturday evening. The USMC Color Guard is returning. Have you made your plans to attend “a social engagement slightly interrupted by gunfire?” Do not wait to get registered.
One other event we need to remind you of is the Jeff Cooper Memorial Shoot. We had plans to celebrate the 100th birthday over Memorial Day weekend. Unfortunately, the pandemic business created issues. We have it rescheduled for September 6 (Labor Day weekend Sunday with a Pistol Range Day on the Saturday.). It will be a one-day event, smaller than GAS Match, with courses of fire that have been modified from some of the original Southwest Pistol League courses. The winner will come from a “J Ladder” filled from the winners of the morning courses of fire. Lunch will be included in the match fee. This should be a grand day of shooting.
As my old friend and Gunsite staff member Jim Higginbotham likes to say, I’m “just rambling” so time to get back to other Gunsite business. (We are proofing the 2021 Gunsite calendar this week for the printer!)
Times are challenging, stay alert, stay aware and watch your six.
DVC,
Ken
