Winter in the High Desert
Our first 250 Pistol Class for 2016 as we begin Gunsite’s 40th Year is complete! It seems so appropriate that this group was all NEW to Gunsite. During their greeting on Monday morning I said: “You’ll be back!” True to that, more than one has enrolled for their next Gunsite experience.
Gunsite is always a fun and exciting place to visit and train, but even more during this year as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary, Plan the grand celebration during the Gunsite Alumni Shoot on October 1, and begin our many new classes. We also have the new 250 Pistol classes at Colonial Shooting Academy in Richmond Virginia well underway. Our usual events with our media partners and partners in the shooting industry (Remington, Colt, Mossberg, Ruger, and more) are also beginning. During the winter we do our catch up work on the ranch and range facilities ranging from replacing the target backers in the shoot houses to fresh paint on the Pro Shop.
Some of the new courses that begin soon is the Defense Against Street Crimes and “Seasoned Citizen” 250 the first week of March. Street crime is something occurring in most all our communities. It is time for you to take your training to the next level to avoid or confront the miscreants that seek us out. If you have been concerned that you have “too many miles” on your knees and hips and don’t want to try to keep up with the youngsters in the class, the “Seasoned Citizen” 250 (or 223) is for you! As we are a fighting school, the odds of some of the seasoned citizens going to kneeling or prone is not great. Rather, it is more apt to be up close and dirty. This 250 class is based upon realistic training for that person.
Our first Active Shooter/Terrorist Response for Citizens is also in March along with the new Emergency Medical Preparedness. We all read and listen to the news and know that bad things are happening throughout the world as well as in our Republic. Have you planned for that event in your work place, mall or on the street? Living in “Yellow” as we do, we know that these events can and will happen. The Active Shooter Class is popular and we have added an additional course in May and may need to add another. If you are considering this, don’t delay enrolling. The Medical Class is also based upon the Active Shooter scenario so you can take care of yourself, your family or others if you shelter in place until the event resolves.
If you are planning ahead for summer events for your Young Americans, remember we have a Youth 250 Pistol Class in June and July. These popular courses are the standard 250 Pistol class, but the attendants are all Young Americans (12-16). If an adult enrolls in another class that same week, there is a substantial discount. Make it a true “summer camp” experience and stay in the Gunsite Campground.
Let’s consider another 40th Anniversary Special Event we are hosting in early April with Steve Tarani, Rob Leatham and Chris White. (www.gunsite40.com). This is a week long course with top notch instructors offered at the concierge level. That is, it includes your accommodations, meals, training and evening lectures from Bill Rogers and a former Deputy Director of Defense about the current state of the world and more. One will need to shoot a qualifying score to stay in the course. Devil Dog Carbines can be earned by doing well in the course. (Visit the website for details.) This may be a once in a lifetime type event!
Enough for now, even though there is so much more to say. Don’t miss out on the many opportunities as Gunsite celebrates our 40th Anniversary.
See you Down Range!
