Extreme Long Range Rifle
This course examines the techniques and equipment required to engage targets from 1000 to 2000 meters. The classroom sessions cover the fine details of ballistics, methods of accurate range finding, selection of ammunition and configuration of ballistic software. Range sessions calibrate the rifle, telescope and ammunition into the chosen software system. Once confirmed on the known distance range, you will engage more than 20 unknown distance targets from 5 separate locations at ranges from 1000 to 2000 meters!
Physical Difficulty Level: Moderate, but students should be capable of getting and out of knelling, sitting and prone positions).
PRECISION RIFLE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Unlike most other classes at Gunsite, XLR has very specific requirements for suitable equipment. XLR demands equipment of the highest quality, with some specific attributes. These classes are NOT Long-Range Hunting classes. The skills, tactics and equipment used in these classes, does not correspond with practical hunting skills, tactics, and equipment. This brief is intended to help in the selection of equipment for these classes. If you have any questions about equipment for these classes, please call the office and ask to speak with one of the instructors for the class.
For those interested in the class that have not yet committed to an XLR type rifle purchase, a limited number of rentals in .338 LM are available. A Desert Tech SRS, APO ASW-338 and AI AXMC may be rented for class. The rifles are fully equipped with S&B or ZCO scopes, suppressors and bipods. Cost is $300 for the 4 day class. You will need to provide factory .338 Lapua Magnum ammunition, which is NOT available in the ProShop. We recommend ammo using Hornady 285gr Match, Berger 300gr Match or Lapua 300gr Match bullets, available from Hornady, Berger, Desert Tech and Black Hills.
Contact coryT@gunsite.com for questions regarding Prerequisite qualifications or to rent equipment.
