Scoped Carbine
The Scoped Carbine course is a class designed for the shooter who wants to prepare their skill set for purposes other than home defense. Varmint hunting, longer range target shooting, and general recreation. The course curriculum still contains the necessary tasks to prepare the student for attendance to the advanced carbine class, 556. The student will receive instruction on carbine manipulations, ballistic software, wind, multiple target engagements from 50 to 600 yards, shooting from supports, intermediate shooting positions, shooting with a sling, house clearing, flashlight searching and target engagement techniques and moving targets. This is not a precision rifle course, so don’t feel you need an expensive gun and match ammo. Most AR-15s with a good scope on them shooting 55gr FMJ will do just fine in the class.
Weapon Requirements: Centerfire Semi auto carbine capable of effectively engaging targets out to 600 yards. Accuracy level of rifle and ammo: 2 MOA. Carbine must be light enough to employ in the standing position. Carbine must be able to accommodate a quick detachable bipod.
Optics Requirement: Magnified optic with a crosshair reticle with either a BDC reticle or adjustable turrets.
Equipment Requirements: Quick detachable bipod with an adjustment range of 9 to 13 inches, Rifle sling capable of “Cuffing Up”. Ballistic Software. GeoBallistics Premium version (phone or tablet) recommended, Binoculars required, Front and Rear rest bags, Handheld Combat Flashlight, Shooting Matt, Knee pads, Elbow pads, eye and ear protection, 4 magazines, two magazine pouches, logbook, backpack to carry equipment. Appropriate clothing for the weather during the class dates. A small laser rangefinder plus a weather meter are recommended.
I’m a retired Navy diver and this is the 6th class I’ve taken here. It’s always good to refresh & retrain and this is the best and only place to do that.
