Battle Rifle Class
Battle Rifle is a course of instruction based on fighting with the .30 caliber rifle.
The student is trained on engaging targets out to 300-600 yards. This class normally sees a variety of weapons, including the Garand, M14, AR10 variants, HK91, FN/FAL and the SCAR 17S, but is open to all 30-06, 7.62mm or 6.8mm semi-auto rifles. Students will receive training not only on their weapon, but also familiarization with other battle rifle systems available in the world. This is a class for fighting rifles, not heavy precision guns. The student should avoid bringing any rifle that weights more than 11 lbs loaded and be very prudent in adding any additional heavy rails to the base rifle.
As with our carbine classes, an optic is not required, but can be a great aid in shooting to some students. Any red dot sight that can stand up to the recoil of the rifle is recommended. In the variable power magnified optic area, the low end should be at 1X. So quality 1-4X, 1-6X or the 1-8X are good choices. Fixed power optics like the 3 to 4X ACOG are workable, but it is recommended that a red dot sight be added to the top of these style sights. 45 deg offset red dots are not recommended for this course. High power optics are highly discouraged in this class and will hamper and degrade the students training experience. For optic questions, contact us and we will put you in contact with the class Rangemaster for specific recommendations and additional guidance.
Any true fighting weapon is enhanced with the addition of a weapons light. Training on the use and proper configuration of a weapons light is part of the weeks training. However, this is not a requirement. Each student must have a handheld flashlight that is of the appropriate design to used in conjunction with a firearm. Most of the low light training will be based around the use and employment of a handheld light.
No bipod is required or needed for the class and they are discouraged as well.
To help offset the weight of the Battle Rifle, it is recommended that the student use a single point sling. However, any two point or military style carry strap will do.
This popular Gunsite experience is a limited offering and requires early registration to achieve attendance requirements. As always, world class range masters and coaches provide instruction based on their real world experiences. This class is the prerequisite class for Combat Rifle.
The use of the Battle Rifle is best learned by experiencing close physical contact with your rifle in a no nonsense training setting. This course did just that. The four instructors were excellent, very knowledgeable, A plus. They gave each student...
