BRAVE – Ballistic Response Against Violent Encounters
Your primary defensive goal is to avoid, evade, or escape violence, but sometimes you just aren’t able to and violence finds you. This class presents the philosophies and concepts, including specific tactics, techniques, and procedures, for dealing with unavoidable violence associated with common locations such as your home, workplace, and public places, such as parking lots, theaters and restaurants. Designed for the concealed handgun carrier, this course emphasizes key practices for concealed carry and employment of the defensive handgun from a concealed carry position.
Mindset, marksmanship, and gun handling are the hallmarks of the Gunsite Academy experience, and this class is no different. Legal and effective use of the defensive handgun is the primary course goal, followed by developing and employing techniques and procedures which support the employment of the handgun. In order to enhance learning, this course includes significant use of simulators and scenarios to drive rapid decision making on appropriate responses to threats of violence. Included are discussions and actions for the aftermath of actual employment of the handgun in defense of self, and/or, others.
The reality of violence includes physical violence prior to or in conjunction with the employment of the defensive handgun. This course includes training on physical force measures, including striking and grappling techniques, designed to build time and space for employing the handgun. These simple, yet very effective techniques, support your ability to defend yourself at the appropriate level while employing deadly force decision making skills. Also, since sudden violence often involves injury, you’ll learn simple self-aid techniques for stabilizing an injury and seeking professional care.
NOTE: This is a very active course, so the attending student should be prepared for significant physical activity.
