Dog Days of Summer!
It has been warm at Gunsite this month and the wonderful Summer Monsoons are finally arriving. Fortunately, the lesson plans of The Modern Technique allow us flexibility to work around the warm temperatures and the sudden rains. (Remember that you can usually subtract 15-20 degrees from the Phoenix temperatures.) And yes we know it is hot like an oven, but coming from the mid-west humidity, it isn’t hot like a crock pot!
August begins with your first 150 Pistol Course at The Firearms Academy of Seattle as well as a 150 Pistol in the Nashville TN area. Later in October is the Defensive Vehicle Course in TN as well.
The “Range Days” for various disciplines continue with Shotgun in August. (There are not many venues where a graduate of the shotgun courses can spend the day with Gunsite Instructors refreshing your skills all the way out “to Fort Mudge” as Col. Cooper would say.) Remember, we schedule these Range Days based on client interest. So, don’t wait to enroll for the day so it can happen!
As September nears, the planning for Gunsite’s 40th Anniversary Celebration at the Gunsite Alumni Shoot (GAS Match) continues. Enrollment closed about eight (8) weeks ago as we reached the maximum number of shooters. We understand that some former staff members such as Clint Smith will be attending. (Clint is also running one of our stages for GAS.)
There are a few of the Gunsite 40th Anniversary Pistol packages available. These one hundred (100) pistol packages were offered to those attending the Historical 250 and 350 Pistol classes preceding GAS. Not all have been spoken for. The package is a two-tone Colt 1911A-1 Pistol, assembled by the Colt Custom Shop, with rear cocking serrations only, the usual Gunsite Service Pistol modifications, a special Serial Number of 001 DVC through 100 DVC, the “retro’ Gunsite logo on the left side of the slide and stocks and the current Gunsite logo on the right side of the slide and stocks. Included with this pistol is a Strider fixed blade knife with the Raven and “Gunsite” cut through the handle and 1976-2016 with logo on the blade, serial numbered to the gun. Finally, it also includes a Copper 2016 Gunsite 40th Anniversary Challenge Coin, also serial numbered to the gun and knife. the entire package is $2,000. Remember, there are only one hundred being made and most are spoken for. Don’t wait to call Susan to reserve one!
In closing, let’s visit the political arena for a minute. If you support the Constitution and the Bill or Rights and specifically our Second Amendment, now is the time to get involved and make sure other like-minded individuals get out and vote. If you sit this one out, our way of life may change for generations. It really is just that simple.
We hope to see you back a Gunsite soon.

Sheriff Ken Campbell (Ret.)
