Groundhog’s Day, SHOT, and More . . .
SHOT Show is behind us. No SHOT Show crud for the Gunsite Crew attending (Buz, Ken, Shari C., Lindy, and Shari L. and multiple instructors). It is all the clean living, hand sanitizer, never touching the escalator handrails, bourbon, and cigars.
SHOT was well attended judging by the challenges of navigating the aisles. We saw many, many Gunsite Family. Thank you so much for coming up to us and commenting about Gunsite. It is a wonderful time when Family comes to see us.
As always, many striker fired pistols, black rifles, and flashlights. Lever guns seem to have peaked; revolvers continue to grow, and there are many options for suppressors. Much of SHOT is the networking in the aisles, restaurants, and over adult beverages. I think there is more business completed there than in the booths on the floor.
NRA ballots are out in the February NRA magazines. If you have questions about who to consider voting for, look to the “Electanewnra.com” website.
Apparently, the Groundhog saw his shadow in PA and promises 6 more weeks of winter. Well, the Saguaro Cactus saw his shadow here in Arizona and we expect several weeks of impossibly blue skies and marshmallow clouds!
We hope and pray that all those impacted by the devastating fires on the West Coast and those continuing reconstruction efforts on the East Coast from the hurricane are fighting the good fight and recovering. Seeing the work of the wildland and urban firefighters and the skill of the aviators doing chemical and water drops is humbling.
Have you held to your New Year’s Resolutions? This is the time of year they are frequently forgotten. We hope one of yours was to re-read Principles of Personal Defense, do regular Dry Practice, and get quality range time.
Another 250 Class began this morning, Pistol Range Day this coming Saturday, and an Advanced 1911 Build Class in a few weeks. We also look forward to our first Seasoned Citizen 150 Pistol Class at Shooters World at The Villages north of Orlando, Florida. (There are still a few seats open in that class.) February finishes up with a 260 Shotgun, a Nashville TN (Royal Range) 250 Pistol, and Shotgun Advanced Tactical Problems.
March comes in like a lion with Shotgun Range Day, 250 Pistol, Battle Rifle, Pistol Range Day 2, and more. Still time to get registered!
Always wished to attend Gunsite, but the budget won’t allow it? Remember the Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation (JCLF). It is a 501c3 started by Mrs. Cooper and her daughters upon Lt. Col. Cooper’s passing. The JCLF Scholarship pays your tuition to a Gunsite 250 Pistol Class at Gunsite. Visit their website jeffcooperfoundation.org for details
We continue to work with Yavapai County for permitting for our new Mess Deck and Warehouse building. We hope permits will be forthcoming so we can get construction completed before the very busy season. Once those are completed, the old Classroom/Pro Shop will be converted back to two (2) classrooms. (We need the classroom space!)
Let me throw this out there . . . If Gunsite had a Lodge on site that also offered breakfast and dinner at a fair price, would you be interested in staying there for your class? Our campground is wonderful, but many don’t find camping enjoyable. So, we are considering a Lodge. Email Ken@gunsite.com if you think you would be interested in staying here.
And finally, let me dispel a rumor that we continue to hear . . . Gunsite is not for sale. We are preparing for the celebration of our first 50 Years as the World’s Premier Firearms Training Academy.
When are you coming (back) to Gunsite?
Ken
