Summer has Arrived!
What happened to “the Ides of March?” Seems like Spring was just a few days ago. It really is no surprise at the Gunsite Ranch that time seems to move so quickly as busy as we are.
While I am not making a sales pitch for classes or GAS Match, if you haven’t enrolled in what class or GAS, you might get moving on it. GAS has over one hundred sixty (160) enrollments as of today. We close at two hundred twenty-five (225). It looks like it will fill sooner than usual this year. Don’t tarry! We anticipate a new vendor/sponsor or two (2) in vendor row as well as sponsoring a stage.
Gunsite hosted our first GSSF Match (Glock) a month ago. Nearly one hundred (100) competitors shot on our various ranges and had a grand time. Training Director Lew Gosnell (and a fierce competitor himself) coordinated this event. All went well and we look forward to having our friends at Glock return in 2023.
The Pat Rogers Memorial Revolver Round-Up scheduled for November 19-21, 2022 has surpassed the 2021 enrollments this morning. It is a tremendous educational opportunity with a variety of seminars focusing on the wheel gun. (Especially on the 2” and 3” barrel guns.) Several well-known instructors offer two (2) hour blocks of education. One of my favorites last year was Mark Fricke and the history of speed strips and speed loaders. (I know, I’m a geek, but it was fascinating.) This is a low round count event (Three hundred (300) or so rounds), so don’t let ammunition prices scare you away. Get enrolled soonest.
Buz, Shari Campbell and new Gunsite Director of Marketing Shari LeGate and I attended the NRA Annual Meeting in Houston last weekend. This is always a grand opportunity to visit with Gunsite family as well as conduct business. We met with many of our vendors and accomplished some significant business. (There will be a great announcement in the next few months! Stand by to stand by!) According to NRA, their attendance was down from prior years. With all happening at the NRA and in the world, that should come as no surprise. The Houston Police and Harris County Sheriff’s Office were out in strength. They were all pleasant to visit with as we thanked them for their service, sacrifice and patience with the protestors. While there were rude protesters, they did not significantly impact the show whatsoever. It was nice to see the police mounted unit push the protestors back when they made a feeble attempt to cross the line. With the smaller crowd, as SHOT Show, we were able to spend quality time with many of our vendors as well as new vendors. We look forward to NRA returning to Indianapolis in 2023.
Look for Shari LeGate, Shari Campbell and Jane Anne Shimizu at The Armed Women of America (AWA) Annual Conference in Ogden Utah in late June. We offer the AWA Instructor Course here at Gunsite. The inaugural course was a great success and we look forward to the next one later this year.
Classes here at the Gunsite Ranch continue to be full. A few weeks ago, the doubled 250 Pistol Class was tripled. Almost all 250 Pistol Classes have doubled through November. Dave Hartman and Randy Watt head to Alaska for our annual course there next week. (This is the first 250 Pistol Course we have offered in Alaska.) There are still a few seats left. Church Defense continues to be popular. (It is a blend of 250 Pistol as well as Church Defense in our efforts to try to save the houses of worship monies as we can.)
Private classes continue to increase. It may be a “company meeting” or simply a group of friends and family that wish to train together. A popular class is friends-family-co-worker training in the respective firearm(s) and introduce some team tactics.
