“New Year’s Day: Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual.”
― Mark Twain
(Well, other than your resolution to make your first or next venture to Gunsite!)
Another beautiful day at the Gunsite Ranch. The mornings start out cool (18 F this AM, but 53 F now.).
Many things happening at Gunsite beyond classes. We have been here 46+ years and look forward to many, many more. Part of that is long-term capital improvements. When you visit over the next 12-18 months, new buildings will be underway.
First is the new Instructor Quarters at the Raven Gate. (Gatehouse). There is an old structure there now for housing, but it has far exceeded its useful lifespan and not up to the standards we want for our great instructors. You will see a new building going up in the next month or so in its place.
Also underway is work on the main campus. On the east side of the main parking lot, between the windmill and the main entrance, excavation is underway today. After the Gatehouse is completed, a new Main Office and new Pro Shop will begin construction. The current office is about 20 years old, and needs replaced. (Parking Lot!) The Pro Shop needs more space. (We know you need more cool guy gear to choose from in the Pro Shop!) The current Pro Shop will revert to its original use – a classroom! (We need the classroom space with the many new and returning students.)
Dave Fink the Gunsite Gunsmith will increase his floor space by taking over and renovating the house portion of the Gunsmith. Business is booming in the Gunsmithy and he has added yet another gunsmith to his crew.
The “Son-of-Pit” Range is being enlarged. It will become a larger 360°-degree range so it can be a new pistol and possibly carbine range. (See photos.)
So, many moving parts here as we look 25 years down the road.
SHOT Show is upon us! The annual Shooting, Hunting Outdoor Trade Show sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) returns to Las Vegas January 18-21, 2022. Gunsite does not have a booth, but we are there in force. Look to see myself, Buz, Lew, Dave, Jane Anne and untold numbers of instructors walking about. We look forward to seeing many of the Gunsite family there as well as meetings with our industry partners. Our schedules are filling already.
The first 250 Pistol Class starts Monday January 10. Senior Rangemaster Jerry McCown works with Guy Coursey and Charlie McNeese with a near full class. The Saturday preceding is a Pistol Range Day (The best bargain at Gunsite) led by Gary Smith and Guy Coursey.
For those in the east coast area, we have a three (3) day Nashville 150 Pistol Class beginning on January 21 with Jeff Dooley and Vince Morgan. The 150 is a great introduction to the Modern Technique or a wonderful refresher. Come train with our “Tennessee Mafia” instructors.
Gunsite also has numerous private courses (Tutorials) in January. Do you only have a few days or wish to train privately with friends, family or co-workers? We can tailor a course to what you want. Contact Training Director Lew Gosnell (Lew@gunsite.com) to get details.
Enough for now. We hope to see many of you at SHOT. I’ll be doing my (infamous) Facebook live videos throughout the show. If you haven’t seen one, follow Gunsite on Facebook. I’m told the Live sessions are worth the entertainment value.
Closing note – We have learned of a police action shooting down Highway 89 this morning by Gunsite near Depot 89 Gas Station. (We are told the LEOs involved are safe and sound.) While we know Gunsite is the safest place on earth, one never knows what will happen and when.
Govern yourselves accordingly.
DVC,
Ken
