Spring has finally arrived throughout the Republic. While the winter at the Gunsite Ranch was wet, it was mild. March was very warm. The weather beginning of April is perfect. The sun block is in full use on the ranges.
Spring at Gunsite means more classes as many find Spring Break can be best spent learning a life-saving skill. Have you begun to consider your Spring Break for 2016 yet? Consider taking the monies spent on beaches and adult beverages and think of the high desert and a life changing and life-saving epiphany at Gunsite. Memories can be made with your young adults that will last a lifetime. I know the times spent shooting with my father are great, and those shooting with my sons (especially those at Gunsite) are some of the best. We have Pistol 250, Long Range Rifle, Shotgun 260, Shotgun Advanced Tactical Problems, Extreme Long Range Rifle and Carbine Classes this year. What course might there be offered next year during your Spring Break week? Remember we have a great campground available as well.
Offsite classes are being added to our schedule for those who are travel challenged. We have added a two day pistol class in Nunn CO June 13-14, a three day pistol carbine and shotgun in Indiana and multiple classes in Nashville TN. Details are on our website at the offsite courses drop down window. There may be more to come for offsites, watch our website for the announcements.
Our new website is up and running. Please take a few minutes to visit and let Marketing Director Jane Anne Shimizu know your thoughts on it. The new Web Store is readily available from there as well. With the warm weather approaching, take a look at our “Urban Camouflage” Hawaiian Shirts with the Raven logo. Go into the world well prepared and “styling.” We have also added the DeSantis “City Slicker” to the products carried. This is a “coin purse” easily carried with a few ounces of change in it. (A few of the “old timers” on the police department carried a similar item in my young days as a Deputy.) Something to take a look at to carry in a non-permissive environment.
The planning for the GAS Match is in full swing here. The Gunsite Alumni Shoot is the first week-end in October. As our late friend and co-worker Chris Dwiggins said: “It is a social event slightly interrupted by gunfire.” GAS is attended by approximately 150 Gunsite alumni, shooting simulators and side-matches all day, interrupted by breakfast, lunch, dinner and awards. (Everyone wins a prize!) There is a separate dinner the Friday night in the campground as well. Instructors have begun submitting their devious simulators and events, new venues are being set up, and a new caterer for the meals. Don’t wait to sign up, it is over half full now!
Watch for us on the various media outlets from the magazines to the television shows. Our friends at Remington and Mossberg were here the last few weeks with gun writers debuting new weapons. We are not at liberty to discuss it all now, but watch and see! Handguns and Defensive Weapons was back filming again and Gun Stories will be back soon. Working with our partners in the shooting industry and media is a great pleasure for us at Gunsite. Look for more to come!
Gunsite will also be represented at the NRA Convention in Nashville in mid-April. Watch for the Raven on the show floor. Remember, when you see that logo, it is a friend, family member and someone “good to go” if, as the Col. said, “the flag flies.”
Finally, remember to take a young person out to shoot. We must educate the young Americans as to safe and responsible gun-handling and help them learn what fun it is to be involve in the shooting sports so they can continue to represent these values as they grow.
See you on the range.
DVC,
Ken
