Overview
With Mike Moore retiring as the Gunsmithy for Gunsite Academy, the time for a fresh start was at hand. With the ever-growing class sizes and demand for custom work, who better to pace the strides of Gunsite than two growing business that have been supporting the shooters and instructors of Gunsite personnel and alumni than Dave Fink and Bobby Tyler?
Who They Are
Finks Custom Gunsmithing has been in Chino Valley Arizona just outside of Gunsite academy for 4 years. The Fink crew’s passion was split between custom pistol/rifle work and firearms refinishing. Tyler Gun Works, located in Friona Texas, has specialized in firearm restoration and refinishing and produces some of the most beautifully engraved color cased firearms you will ever see.
What They Did
Dave Fink with Finks Custom Gunsmithing and Bobby Tyler with Tyler Gunworks then teamed up to revamp the Smithy house. Gunsite is known for not only its top-notch training facility but its knowledgeable instructors. With that philosophy applied, the old smithy house has been completely remodeled on the inside. The office has new flooring, paint, and a waiting room has been added. Individual benches for each ‘smith have been installed. New machinery has been added for a broader range of work. And finally, highly trained personnel were added to keep up with the work flow.
What They Do
The name on the door of the onsite shop is Finks Custom Gunsmithing, and when someone walks in, they will be talking with Dave Fink or one of the gunsmiths directly. Between the knowledge and skill that these people have, there is not much that cannot be processed out of the smithy house. On-site is a full line machine shop that can take care of any RMR milling, serrating, Novak sight cuts or any other custom machining project you can come up with. A full bluing operation is also on-site for any bluing/refinishing needs that arise with custom work. Cerakoting is done on-site as well.
One of the biggest things that is now being offered out of the Gunsite smithy house is color case hardening. Obviously this is where Bobby Tyler comes in. Bobby Tyler stopped taking private work late in 2020. If you want a custom color on your pistol or rifle, send it to Dave Fink at Gunsite. Once the project is dropped off with Finks Custom Gunsmithing they will perform the preparation required and will send it to Bobby Tyler directly.
Our Mission Statement:
Gunsite students drive the school’s operation, and a functioning firearm is key to a student’s success. If a firearm goes down during class, one of the on-site gunsmiths will immediately address the problem and get the firearm back in operating condition so you can complete your training. Knowing that any issues that arise will be completed in a timely fashion by a professional will keep your mind at ease when you are down-range.
Although the Smithy shop may not be in your home town, they can take care of you and your firearms regardles. We are looking forward to building long-termrelationships with you.
