“It [Independence Day] ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.” — John Adams
Independence Day has come and gone for 2017. We hope the Gunsite Family celebrated with appropriate fanfare. The Monsoon rains had not yet arrived at Gunsite and most fireworks were cancelled here. The Veteran’s 250 Pistol Courses began this morning and there will be celebratory gunfire on the ranges this morning.
Gunsite is proud to again host approximately forty (40) veterans of the war against terrorism for a 250 Pistol Course. Not only do these Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and “Coasties” receive the best pistol training, but also get to re-establish relationships with others who have “seen the elephant.”
Heat has been warmer than usual (Prescott set a new sustained temperature record), but nothing like the temps “in the valley.” Do not let summer (or winter) deter you from attending a class at Gunsite. Generally temperatures are 20-25 degrees cooler than Phoenix in the summer (They come to us to escape the heat) and 20 degrees warmer than Flagstaff in the winter. Class attendance is usually a bit smaller in the summer due to the heat misconceptions, but that is better for you!
If weather bothers you, remember it is always sunny and 70 for the Gunsite 250 Pistol Course at the beautiful indoor range and shoot house at Colonial Shooting Academy in Richmond VA. (And no humidity!) We will also be in the scenic northwest at the Firearms Academy of Seattle in mid-August. And for those fighting the heat in Phoenix, we have another two (2) day introductory Gunsite Pistol Course at C2 Tactical in mid-August. (I can’t think of a better way to beat the heat in Phoenix than an air conditioned range working with Gunsite Rangemasters.) Finally, there is a 150 Pistol Course in northern Colorado August 4-6 as well.
Have you seen the new Colt Gunsite Lightweight .45 ACP Commander 1911 pistol advertised on our web page or social media? We have worked with Colt for many months awaiting delivery of this new gun. As with all the Gunsite Pistols, it has all the features that are needed and nothing else. Call Susan in the Pro Shop (928-636-4565 X 86) for details. Keep a sharp eye out as we also anticipate delivery of the 9mm Lightweight Commander in the next few months. (Christmas is not that far away!)
Are you involved in Search and Rescue or in Man Tracking? Do you want to learn about Man Tracking from one of the best in the world? Gunsite brings world renown Tactical Tracking expert David Scott-Donelan to Gunsite a few times a year to teach those skills. David’s graduates have been involved in successful tracking operations all over the United States and the world. Our next course is July 24-28 and again the week of October 30. Further information is here: https://www.gunsite.com/classes/level-1-tactical-mantracking/
The annual Gunsite Alumni Shoot (GAS Match) is October 7. Don’t wait to get enrolled. (We sold out last year.) Our Gunsite staff have assembled some new devious stages and the Funhouse Run (Formerly “The Best 5 Minutes of your Life with Chris and Ed”) is back with Rangemasters John Hall and Bob Whaley. Several names for the stage have been suggested, but no decision as yet. Have you any suggestions?
The 2018 Schedule should be on the website within a week or so. Look for the new classes (Church Defense and more) as well as returning old favorites (Foreign Weapons) Please don’t wait to enroll as some are only offered one or two times. Don’t miss out.
Enough for now, time to visit our Vets Class down range.
DVC,
Ken
